CBS Los Angeles: Veteran's Day Interview with Dr. Cameron and Larry Wilcox
This Veterans Day, CBS Los Angeles had Dr. Robert Cameron and Vietnam Vet and CHiPS television star Larry Wilcox on their Health Watch.
Dr. Cameron detailed the high incidence of mesothelioma among veterans and his mission to help them combat this rare cancer. The message he wanted to get across is that there are treatment options for veterans. He encourages them to contact the West Los Angeles VA Medical Center which sees veterans from all over the U.S.
Larry Wilcox is proof of how the right treatment can save your life. Dr. Cameron operated on Wilcox almost a decade ago removing a large fibrous tumor from his lung. According to Wilcox, “As a veteran, people always ask, ‘Why did you join the Marine Corps?’ First, I wanted to be the best and second, I didn’t want to be a hero but I’m happy that I found a few heroes in this world. [Dr. Cameron] is my hero.”
At the end of the segment, CBS plugged the upcoming unMASKing the Cure for Cancer Gala which honors Dr. Cameron and raises money for the cutting edge research being done at the Pacific Heart Lung & Blood Institute which is focused on finding better treatments for mesothelioma and other chest cancers.
